Traditional Mexican Salsa - Pico de Gallo

Pico de gallo is a traditional Mexican salsa. It is simple, fresh, and delicious. This salsa should not be saucy at all; it should be chunky and full of simple flavors. Serve it with tacos, on salads, grilled meats and more. You can also set out a delicious bowl with some chips for everyone to enjoy. This recipe is so simple you can make it in just a few minutes, so keep the ingredients on hand.

Dice everything very small. While this salsa should be chunky, it is not traditionally made to be in large chunks. You want to get all the flavors in every single bite. Leftovers can be refrigerated and served with the next meal. It is great with eggs in the morning. You can also put some on your sandwich at lunch time. Be adventurous and put this salsa out as a condiment at every meal. You may be surprised at how much you use it.

Like any homemade salsa, your recipe will only be as good as your ingredients. Choose the freshest produce you can find. Garden ripened tomatoes will give you a wonderful flavor. Even the variety of tomato you choose will make a difference; some are spicy, some are sweet and some are tangy. Onions vary, too. Some are sweet and mild while others are hot and spicy. Make your salsa with your favorites and you will get a flavor you love with every bite. Try it with different variations to see what tastes best to you and your family.
