While it is all but certain that you and your family or other dinner guests love guacamole, you may not know how to make it yourself. It's actually quite easy to prepare your own guacamole at home once you know how; and if you've always wanted to know how to make it, you've come to the right place.

This basic guacamole recipe is simple enough that anyone can make it - if you have children, you can even enlist their help in making this recipe, provided that they're old enough to safely handle knives and other kitchen tools. It takes very little time to make this recipe, but the taste is fantastic and well worth the effort.

Basic Guacamole

Ingredients -

4 ripe avocados, peeled and seeded
1 tomato, diced
¼cup finely chopped red or white onion
½ tsp ground cumin
Juice of 2 limes (or one lemon)
Salt and pepper, to taste

Preparation:

There's not very much work involved in preparing this basic guacamole recipe, especially if you have a food processor. Simply peel the avocados, removing the large seed from each as you do. Mash the avocado with a potato masher (if it's soft enough) or a mortar and pestle - or pulse along with the lime or lemon juice until it reaches a semi-smooth consistency.

Stir in the onion, tomato and cumin and season to taste with salt and pepper. Add extra lime or lemon juice if desired, stir well and serve with tortilla chips - or anything else you feel could benefit from the addition of guacamole!
