Extra Spicy Chili Recipe with Tequila

This delicious chili recipe is perfect if you enjoy spicy chili recipes because the flavor is wonderful. You can choose which type of chili to use in it - jalapeno, Serrano, or habanero - depending on how spicy you want the chili to be. The tequila adds flavor to this dish but its flavor will not be obvious in the finished chili.

As with lots of chili recipes, this extra spicy chili with tequila is great when you reheat it. If you like, you can also freeze it for up to three months but if you do that you might need to add a little more cayenne before serving it. That would be a great idea for busy weeknights so you might like to double up on this recipe, just so you have some over for freezing.

Chili recipes are popular at all kinds of occasions. Maybe you fancy something hot and soothing at the end of a long day or perhaps you want to enjoy one of your all-time favorite dishes while you watch a game on the TV. If you have guests coming for dinner you can make a mild or moderately spiced chili, so that some people can help themselves to hot sauce if they require more heat, and serve it with cheese, sour cream, and lime wedges on the side. What about having a Mexican themed evening or a Cinco de Mayo party? That would be a great time to show off your chili-making skills.

One of the Most Delicious Spicy Chili Recipes

Ingredients -

3 tablespoons tequila
˝ teaspoon salt
3 lbs ground beef
1 teaspoon ground cumin
2 finely chopped cloves garlic
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 chopped onions
14 ˝ oz can diced tomatoes in juice
1 minced habanero, jalapeno, or Serrano chili pepper
⅓ cup mild chili powder
15 oz drained, rinsed pinto beans
2 cups beef broth
1 teaspoon dried oregano
˝ teaspoon ground cayenne
Sour cream, to serve (optional)
Shredded Monterey Jack cheese, to serve (optional)

Preparation:

Sauté the onions in the oil in a big covered pot for 5 minutes, over a moderate heat.

Take the lid off and keep cooking the onions until they are light golden brown.

This will take about another 5 minutes.

Add the ground cumin, minced chilies and garlic and cook for another 2 minutes.

Add the chili powder and cook for 1 minute, then add the salt, oregano and beef and cook, stirring, for 8 minutes or until the beef is browned all over.

Add the broth, tomatoes, bay leaf, and cayenne.

Bring the chili to a boil, then turn the heat down to moderately low and simmer it partly covered for an hour and a half.

Add the beans and crush some of them.

This helps to thicken the chili a bit.

Add the tequila and more salt or cayenne if needed.

Simmer the chili uncovered for another 10 minutes then serve it garnished with some cheese and/or sour cream.
