Mexican Ceviche with Passion Fruit and Mango

This tangy dish is scented with citrus and hot peppers to give a true taste of Mexico. When you think of authentic Mexican recipes, you might not think of ceviche but this type of food is very popular in Mexico.

You can get rocoto, which is a round red or orange chili pepper, and aji amarillo, which is a yellow chili pepper with a hot, fruity flavor, in Latin American stores. If you cannot find these, you can substitute hot pepper sauce. Actually, in a lot of Mexican recipes you can switch one type of hot sauce or chili pepper for another because it is sometimes very difficult to find all of them. Of course this might make the recipe slightly less authentic but if you just want to add some heat you can use another chili powder, paste or fresh chili if need be and the effect will be the same.

It is best to use sashimi grade tuna in this Mexican food recipe because it is going to be served raw and soft, tender tuna is preferable. Although not one of the most traditional Mexican recipes because of the fruitiness, this passion fruit ceviche has a wonderful flavor and combines sweetness with spice.
